23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards

Congratulations, Josh, you have identified the true scourge of the queer community: labels. If we cease having words for ways in which people are different those differences will go away!!!!

Do you also ~not see color~? Just wondering.

keeping these tags

this is the opposite of being a good ally

#congratulations #you win fucking nothing #fuck off #I’m glad you have rode in on your white horse of excessive straightness to bring us this wisdom #would you like a fucking cookie

okay bro the problem here is that this sort of thinking is inherently selfish

when white people talk all about color-blindness, it’s because they don’t want to have to acknowledge racism anymore and declaring “WE’RE ALL JUST PEOPLE” means they don’t have to.

this is the same thing. straight people want us all to be not gay or straight but ~people~ but it’s not for us, it’s for THEM. if we got rid of all the words to define different sexualities, who would things change for? certainly not straight people, because they already fall under the umbrella of “just people” because straight is the default setting. straight is “normal”. but they want to get rid of those nasty labels because the labels remind them of their privilege and it makes them feel guilty. so obviously the solution is to pretend inequality doesn’t exist and then it will just go away! RIGHT?

thank-you but no

On top of that I’m fucking tired of seeing tumblr lap up everything an attractive white ~left wing~ straight guys says. Just because he’s a hot straight whitey does not make him the next fucking Messiah.

^^^^^^^^^^ yes. fucking thank you.

Let me tell y’all what it’s like,
being male, middle class and white

i hate tumblr so much

omfg i hate tumblr so much.

You all are idiots.
You’re missing the fucking point, all of you. ALL labels are silly and stupid, even “straight.” Why can’t people just be people? Why can’t people just love people, despite their gender? Why does that have to make you straight or gay or bi or whatever? Why can’t it just be i am a person and i like this person because they’re awesome, not because of their gender or because of the labels that society deems correct in describing my sexuality?

You’re all ganging on him because he’s white, male, and likes women. That’s all kinds of wrong and sexist. I bet if it was a woman saying it she’d be fucking PRAISED because she’s speaking out for the underdogs and she’s an underdog because she’s female!!!! That’s bullshit. It shouldn’t matter WHO says it, if it’s something that supporting sexual equality, it should be seen as something GOOD! Stop bogging shit down with your social activist bullshit just so you can feel good about yourself. You’re judging someone based on completely nothing aside from “what he said rubbed me the wrong way” Which I don’t understand because he’s being awesome about it!!!! Labels are fucking stupid and juvenile and should have ended in middle school. Grow up.

Do you guys realize that he’s addressing a social issue here? That the fact that kids these days can’t talk about who they like to their parents if the person they like is the same gender as them out of fear of being ostracised? That’s a HUGE fucking issue and a reason a lot of kids end up being depressed or suicidal or closed off from the people around them. Secrets are bad, especially secrets about who you are, so keeping something as big as your sexuality in the closet for YEARS does major psychological damage, and OH MY GOD!!! Josh is pushing forward the idea that a kid shouldn’t be afraid to tell their parents who they like??? the idea that you can trust your parents and know they’ll be supportive in a day and age like this where being homosexual is still shockingly seen as wrong by society??? while i support the world as a whole being supportive and accepting, we are not there yet unfortunately. but it starts in the home. if there are more parents who are supportive, then the world will follow suit, because if you’re taught at a young age by your parents that equality is key, then you’ll grow up with the same ideals and that’s what matters. I support what Josh said, because he’s right, and you all are getting angry over nothing. There are worse things to deal with, like people who are actually against equality. Use your powers elsewhere, where they’ll be useful.

So if you’re not supportive, you’re an asshole. If you are supportive but GOD FORBID happen to express it in a manner deemed wrong by the target audience (the kid was nervous, jeez), you’re also an asshole. Jesus fucking christ.

Also note the hypocritical generalization of ‘Straight’ people a few comments up.

The words ‘two way street’ come to mind.

I figure the guy’s point was whatever your orientation or creed; we were all born with assholes.
